EV road trip to Denmark, Sweden and Norway: what we know

Networks, payment and prices in Scandinavia: what is openly known and what is not. With prices from Circle K, Mer, Recharge, IONITY and Allego.

At a glance

  • Denmark: partly open prices. Spirii’s freely accessible feed had an ad hoc price for 6,863 of 8,449 charge points (81.2%) on 24 October 2026. Clever, IONITY and Circle K are not in it.
  • Sweden and Norway: no open ad hoc prices. The NOBIL database covers locations and partly status, but has no price field. Prices come only from providers’ websites.
  • Norway passed AFIR into law on 2 June 2026. It applies from a date the King decides (Lovvedtak 56, § 7).
  • From our catalogue, checked 24 October 2026: Mer Norway 6.49 NOK/kWh at rapid chargers, the same with app or bank card. Circle K Sweden 6.09 SEK/kWh, app or one-off payment.

Scandinavia has some of the highest shares of electric cars in Europe: 95.9% of new cars registered in Norway in 2025 were battery electric, 68.5% in Denmark and 36.5% in Sweden (ACEA figures via best-selling-cars.com). Lots of chargers doesn’t mean clear prices, though. This is what we know for certain about networks and prices, where the gaps are, and how to prepare.

What’s openly known

We fetched and counted the data sources ourselves on 24 October 2026.

Country Locations Open ad hoc prices Source Missing
Denmark partly yes, 81.2% of 8,449 charge points in the Spirii feed Spirii DATEX II (free) Clever, IONITY, Circle K, Fastned, Lidl and others need an access token we don’t yet have
Sweden yes no NOBIL; Spirii with 976 points in SEK big networks’ operator prices
Norway yes no NOBIL price field; AFIR law not yet in force

Danish Spirii prices are genuinely dynamic: around 78 quarter-hour values over 48 hours per charge point, in kroner including 25% VAT. Median prices from a 1,000-site sample were 3.99 DKK at Shell Recharge, 3.00 at EDF, 2.61 at PowerGo and 2.31 at Spirii per kWh. Clever’s price page lists installation and subscription fees but no public charging prices; the price per charger is in the Clever app.

Prices from the big providers

Because open data is missing, we took the big networks’ prices from their websites. In WATTWEG they are labelled “provider price, not reported by the operator”.

Norway

Provider Method Rapid Normal
Mer app, tag or drop-in, same price 6.49 NOK/kWh (50 to 400 kW) 4.99 NOK/kWh
Recharge FLOW app or drop-in 6.79 NOK/kWh 5.79 NOK/kWh (up to 22 kW)
Recharge MOVE 69 NOK a month 4.79 NOK/kWh 5.79 NOK/kWh
Circle K registered in Circle K extra (free) / drop-in 6.49 / 6.79 NOK/kWh 5.29 NOK/kWh (some sites)
IONITY Direct / app from 5.27 / from 5.00 NOK/kWh

Recharge MOVE breaks even at 69 ÷ (6.79 − 4.79) = 34.5 kWh a month, so a single long session in that network covers it.

Sweden

Provider Method Rapid
Circle K app or one-off payment 6.09 SEK/kWh at own ultra-rapid chargers
Circle K at Mer / IONITY app 6.69 SEK (above 150 kW 6.99) / 6.96 SEK/kWh
Mer Connect app, tag time and location based, from 3.40 SEK/kWh at night (22:00 to 07:00)
IONITY Direct / app from 6.09 / from 5.79 SEK/kWh
Allego pay as you go 6.30 SEK/kWh (DC)

Denmark

Provider Method Price
IONITY Direct / app from 3.86 / from 3.67 DKK/kWh
Fastned standard / app with 10% off 3.79 / 3.411 DKK/kWh (calculated)
Allego pay as you go 4.84 DKK/kWh (DC), 4.00 (AC)
Clever Go app, tag price per charger in the Clever app only

Your home charge card in the north

  • EWE Go: no price published for abroad.
  • EnBW mobility+: price per charger in the app only at third-party chargers.
  • ADAC e-Charge: at third-party chargers 4.69 DKK in Denmark and 6.99 SEK in Sweden, billed in euros at the ECB reference rate; Norway not listed.
  • Elli IONITY Boost / Ultra: at IONITY in Norway 4.00 / 3.20 NOK, in Sweden 4.60 / 3.70 SEK, in Denmark 2.90 / 2.30 DKK per kWh.
  • Elli Premium: fixed prices in the listed countries, for example 3.60 NOK at IONITY and 4.90 NOK at other DC chargers in Norway.

How to prepare

  1. Check your bank card works contactless abroad and what your bank charges for kroner payments.
  2. Install one local app per country at home, not at the charger: Mer or Recharge in Norway, Circle K in Sweden, Clever in Denmark if you’ll pass many Clever sites.
  3. Allow for pre-authorisations: Mer holds 300 NOK for drop-in payments in Norway.
  4. Check your own card’s prices in its app for each destination country. If nothing is listed, plan to pay locally.
  5. Charge before the ferry in a country with open prices, and arrive with a reserve.

In Denmark WATTWEG shows operator prices where the Spirii feed has them and marks coverage as partial. In Sweden and Norway it shows locations and, where providers publish them, dated provider prices from the catalogue. Where nothing exists, it says “price unknown”. We don’t guess. For the payment rules that apply across the EU and EEA once in force, see Ad hoc charging with a bank card.

Common questions

Can I charge in Norway without an app?

At many rapid chargers, yes. Mer, Recharge and Circle K publish drop-in prices for bank card payment. Mer says you pay the same price whether you use the app, a charge tag or drop-in, and reserves 300 NOK for drop-in payments.

Why are there no open operator prices for Norway and Sweden?

There is no open dataset with ad hoc prices. The national charger database NOBIL has no price field. Norway passed its AFIR law on 2 June 2026, but it only takes effect from a date the King decides.

Does my German or Dutch charge card work in Scandinavia?

Often, but prices abroad are frequently not published. EWE Go lists no price abroad. ADAC e-Charge and Aral pulse list prices for Denmark and Sweden in their price sheets, but not for Norway.

Does WATTWEG convert kroner to euros?

No. We show prices in the currency the provider publishes and only compare within the same currency. Your bank's exchange rate may differ from the daily rate.
