Privacy policy
Updated: 24 October 2026
In short: WATTWEG needs no account, has no ads and no tracking, and your location stays on your iPhone. Our server delivers charging data and learns as little about you as possible. The details for the app and for this website follow below. This English version is provided for convenience; if it differs from the German version, the German one applies.
1. Controller
Till Heidrich – Content Creation (Heidrich Digital) Rotdornweg 17, 21255 Tostedt, Germany Email: wattweg@heidrich-digital.de
We have no data protection officer and are not required to appoint one. Send any privacy questions to the address above.
2. The WATTWEG app
2.1 What stays on your iPhone
The app stores the following only on your device. We never receive it:
- your location, if you allow it, or the postcode you enter instead
- your vehicle, consumption and battery level
- your charge cards and apps (“My cards”) and your home electricity price
- trip plans, charging history and savings
- settings, for example for reminders
The app works out prices, charging times and the order of recommendations on the device. If you delete the app, this data is gone. There is no account we could restore it from.
You can change location access at any time in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security → Location Services → WATTWEG. Without it, the app works with a postcode.
2.2 Downloading charging data from our server
To show chargers and prices, the app downloads data packages from our server (api.wattweg.heidrich-digital.de or the address chosen later). The packages are the same for every user. There are three kinds: an overview, the tariff catalogue, and tiles containing all charging locations in an area of about 111 × 70 kilometres.
With every request our server technically receives:
- your IP address
- date and time
- which file was requested, so for a tile, roughly which area the app needs data for
- status code and amount of data transferred
The app does not send a device identifier, a name, a precise location or anything about your cards or car.
This information is kept in the server access log so we can find errors and fend off attacks. The log is deleted automatically after 14 days at most. We do not analyse it to recognise users and do not combine it with other data. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure, working service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
2.3 Hosting
The server is run by Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany, in a data centre in Germany. Hetzner processes the data in 2.2 on our behalf under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR).
2.4 Maps, routes and place search by Apple
The map, route calculation and place search (for example a supermarket or café at a charging stop) come from Apple Maps. Your iPhone sends the necessary information, such as the map area or the start and end of a route, directly to Apple. We do not see these requests. Apple is responsible for them; see the Apple Maps privacy information on your iPhone (Settings → Maps → About Apple Maps & Privacy) and apple.com/legal/privacy.
2.5 In-app purchases
You buy the Travel Pass, Plus Yearly and Plus Forever through the App Store. Apple processes the payment and is responsible for it. We receive no payment or account details. The app checks whether you have Plus using the receipts Apple provides on your device; nothing is sent to our server. You manage and cancel subscriptions in your Apple Account settings.
2.6 Reminders and Live Activity
The idle-fee reminder and the Live Activity on your Lock Screen are created locally on your iPhone. We use no push service and send no marketing messages.
2.7 Crash reports and statistics from Apple
If you have agreed in iOS to share analytics with app developers (Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements), Apple gives us crash reports and aggregated usage figures such as the number of installs. This data comes from Apple and does not identify you. We do not include analytics, advertising or crash reporting services from other companies.
2.8 Reporting a price and support
When you use “Report price” or email us, the app opens your mail app. You decide what to send: usually the charger, the price you saw and perhaps a screenshot. We use this to check the price and answer your question (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). We add a price correction to our data without your name. We delete the email once the matter is closed, at the latest after twelve months, unless the law requires us to keep it.
Our email is hosted by ALL-INKL.COM – Neue Medien Münnich, Hauptstraße 68, 02742 Friedersdorf, Germany, as a processor.
2.9 What we don’t do
- no account, no sign-in
- no ads, no tracking, no sharing or selling of data
- no profile of your charging behaviour on our side
- no automated decision-making within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR
3. This website
3.1 Visiting the site
This is a static website with no cookies, no contact form, no embedded content from other companies and no analytics. Fonts and graphics are served from our own server.
When you visit, the server technically receives your IP address, date and time, the address requested, the status code and your browser’s user agent. The website’s own web server does not write an access log. The server management layer in front of it may log requests to find errors and fend off attacks; these entries are deleted after 14 days at most. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Hosting as in 2.3, with Hetzner in Germany.
3.2 Links
Links to the App Store or to providers open their sites, where their privacy rules apply. We add no identifiers to these links.
4. Recipients and transfers outside the EU
We share personal data only with the processors named above (Hetzner, ALL-INKL.COM), both based in Germany with data centres in Germany. Apple processes data for maps and purchases under its own responsibility; its contracting party in the EU is Apple Distribution International Ltd. in Ireland. We do not transfer data to countries outside the EU ourselves.
5. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). Email wattweg@heidrich-digital.de.
Because we keep no accounts and your location and app data stay with you, we can often only tell you that we hold nothing about you. We can only find entries in the access logs (14 days at most) if you give us your IP address and the time.
You can also complain to a data protection authority. Ours is: Die Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen, Prinzenstraße 5, 30159 Hannover, Germany. You may also contact the authority in your own country.
6. Children
WATTWEG is meant for people who drive an electric car. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
7. Changes
If the app changes, for example because price reports can be sent from within the app, we will update this policy beforehand. The date at the top shows the current version.
